Have you ever wanted to have the look of a handmade Oriental rug, but not the investment? Hand-tufted rugs are a great alternative to that decorating challenge.
An economical alternative
Hand-tufting is another method of rug making that is not as labor-intensive nor requires as much expert skill or time on the loom as the traditional hand-knotted Oriental rug. This method employs a tufting gun that "shoots" the wool through a canvas in a "U" shaped loop. Once the wool is in place, a piece of fabric is glued to the back to secure the wool to the foundation. The top of the rug looks like a traditional hand-knotted rug with pile. Tufted rugs can be made in all shapes, sizes and design patterns -- from traditional to contemporary.
Although the tufted rug does not equal the hand-knotted rug in quality and durability, they are a perfect solution for areas such as a kitchen or child's play area. Like hand-knotted Oriental rugs, they should be professionally cleaned. For the homeowner who likes to redecorate every few years, these affordable rugs are economical to replace!
