Rug of the Month
The featured rug for September is a new acquisition for us. It is this absolutely beautiful Anatolian runner. Anatolian rugs are known for their vibrant colors and wonderful designs as well as the unique borders the rugs often display. This rug is no exception. The images in Anatolian rugs are often very meaningful to the weaver or to the weaver's village and are often meant to be "read" by the recipient. What makes this rug especially unique is the size, 4'10"x13'1". Wide runners like this, also known as Kelleyi or Gallery size rugs, were made specifically as border pieces around palace size rugs. Often these rugs are made in pairs and will sit on either size of a very large carpert in a court palace. This rug does have a companion, although it is not in our showroom. The sister rug is very similar in all areas, but with some minor variations, making each rug a one-of-a-kind piece.
