Rug of the Month
Are you ready for Spring? We definitely are! So in thinking of Spring, the March Rug of the Month is a bright, cheerful, colorful rug that would be a great addition to your home this Spring! This rug is a 4x6 Sultanabad made in India. What makes it such a perfect rug for Spring are the beautiful colors and details in the rug, the soft color palette and the whimsical floral design. Sultanabad was a city in Iran in the 1800s that was well known for its rug production. In the mid-1800s they started modifying traditional Persian patterns and colors to create rugs specifically for the Western (i.e. American) market. This is the first time in the history of rug production that Western tastes influenced the designers of rugs. The Americans were looking for softer palettes, less detailed patterns and larger rug sizes than what the Persians were delivering at the time. The Sultanabads were in response to this movement. Today, this Sultanabad, although made in India, is reminiscent of that movement. The rugs continue to be in line with American tastes. This particular rug has a wonderful color palette with a rust field and ivory border. The details in the rug include wonderful colors such as dark blues, light blues, gold and soft violet. The pattern is large enough for the colors to jump off the rug for a beautiful effect. The images below show details of the rug designs and color.
