Rug of the Month
This is a gem of a rug that was literally "found" lying around! Recently added to our showroom is this beautiful piece of an old Oushak rug. Oushak is a region in West Central Anatolia that has been influential in the rug industry since the 15th Century. Oushak rugs have always been admired for their style, colors and durability. Most often woven on a cotton foundation with a silky, lustrous wool and a course knot they are quite distinguishable. Oushaks tend to have geometric designs in a soft stylized pattern. This particular piece may have come from the early 20th century when a new style of Oushak was introduced using red as the predominate color offset with blues in the floral elements. Unfortunately, the original piece is lost. The piece we have now measures 6'5"x10'5" but it is has been cut down from the larger piece. Although we would have loved to have seen the piece in its entirety, this is still a beautifully unique treasure!
